Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption

The Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption is a national nonprofit organization working to speed the adoption process for the more than 150,000 children waiting in North America's foster care systems. For the foundation, Horizons consolidated a variety of incongruous web sites into one consistent style. We redesigned the navigation and layout to make it faster and easier to access information. We also added a robust yet user-friendly content management system, so foundation staff could easily update the site's pages.

Kidslinked.com

Kidslinked is a localized, online resource for parents, coaches and teachers. It's a clearinghouse of information about activities, classes, sports & recreation programs, and other kinds of family-friendly fun. And a place where parents can get information about pediatric concerns, or share stories and tips with each other. And the site offers tools, like an interactive calendar that can be shared with coaches and teachers. Horizons Companies developed and hosts the kidslinked site, which offers local 'franchised' portals for metropolitan areas around the country.

Horizons [Companies] was asked by Wendy's to redesign the Wendy's High School Heisman website. In the redesign we addressed their requests to make it easy for the user to find the information they were looking for, get more students to start the application process by making the call to action of "Apply Now!" stand out, and make the site look awesome!

If there's one thing that fans of Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course and the Mid-Ohio Racing School enjoy, it's speed. So, Horizons redesigned the Mid-Ohio web site to be faster, friendlier, and more functional. Visitors to the site can create a personal account to buy tickets, purchase merchandise, enroll in courses and even buy gift cards. For the client, they now have a back-end system that's more robust, elegant and easy to manage. You might say it handles like a dream - even on hairpin turns!

BoMA Concerts

The Bar of Modern Art - a refurbished, century old church building on Columbus' near east side - has officially gone into the concert biz. In 2009, the one-time upscale restaurant and dance destination refocussed its mission to become a one-of-a-kind site for private parties, corporate meetings, wedding receptions, fundraisers and other events. Recognizing its innate appeal as a concert venue, BoMA reached out to Horizons Companies to help turn that idea in to a reality. Horizons designed and built this new sister site to BoMA's home page, to promote upcoming shows, facilitate ticket purchases, and even let friends post photos and comments pertaining to the shows.

Horizons designed and developed a multi-function web site for this group of 55 affiliated radiology physicians. For the front end of the web site, patients and visitors can learn about the doctors, the emerging technologies and treatment options, and other vital information. For the back end of the site, Horizons created a scheduling system through which the physicians can schedule their work and vacation activity, and also access documentation, policy information and other pertinent patient data for their practices.

A new and improved web presence was just one of the ways we helped 'the company formerly known as' Columbus Showcase become CSC Worldwide. Horizons assisted CSC in their entire rebranding process. The new CSC web site, by the way, includes the company's entire catalog, and was designed to let CSC staff manage their online content. Horizons also produced an extranet to allow CSC direct, secure access with customers. And of course, Horizons also hosts the CSC site.

Let's face it, students today have a lot going on in their lives. As a result, they sometimes miss a lesson because of conflicts with other activities. Or, they have trouble grasping what their teacher was trying to get across to them in class. Fortunately, today's students also have a virtual assistant to help make sure they understand the critical material. Horizons partnered with McGraw-Hill to create the "Personal Tutor", a proprietary software that is just that - a tutor available to students 24/7, anywhere they have access to an internet connection. We've taken important math concepts - and explained them with visuals and audio - in a format that students can pause, rewind, or watch over and over until the information sinks in. We have created thousands of individual problem-solving walkthroughs for each mathematics level from Grade 3 through calculus. What could be better than having your own Personal Tutor?

Horizons has worked with many familiar children's icons, including the Muppets, Garfield, and other lovable characters. For this children's CD-ROM, we created the animations, audio tracks, games and other features that helped children learn about exotic cat species from around the world. In addition to the educational component, of course, were the games which gave kids a chance to expand their creativity and skills. The entire CD-ROM was programmed by Horizons, and distributed nationwide.

MRI Advance

When Dr. Daniel White realized the efficacy of using MRI to detect early breast cancer, he came to Horizons. We created an interactive educational program for breast MRI with nearly 100 video components, developed a web-based software platform (DICOM-compatible) for tracking and managing patient data, created a CME exam for physicians using the program, and designed and developed the MRI Advance web site.

SRA Snapshots & Simply Science

Horizons Companies played a vital, ongoing role throughout the development and execution of this grades 1-5 educational project for McGraw-Hill Education's SRA [elementary school] Division. From developing the graphic design and layout of the integrated textbook pages and video screens...to conceiving, researching and writing ninety-nine different video scripts...to shooting, editing and creating animations for the videos...and to creating custom music tracks, every single member of Horizons Companies' staff lent his or her expertise to the project. In addition, Horizons also programmed four separate versions of the e-Books for Snapshots Simply Science in English and in Spanish.

The interactive CD provides an array of educational tools that made learning about women artists and their contributions a uniquely enjoyable experience. And today, more than a dozen years after the creation of the Women In Art CD, the program's design and functionality remain a work of art.

Beginner's Bible Interactive CD-ROM

Just because a child is too young to read the Bible doesn't mean they can't learn about it. In fact, with the Beginner's Bible they have the opportunity to learn about the people, places and events described in both the Old and New Testaments. This CD-ROM set included more than 60 animated scenes, 30 interactive play areas, 8 sing-and-learn songs, and a variety of other learning materials. The Horizons-produced set also helped children develop creativity, logic and problem solving skills.

Zoboomafoo, a PBS children's program, was the first wildlife series created especially with preschoolers in mind. In this interactive CD-ROM, children have the opportunity to learn about and care for various animals from around the globe. They have the opportunity to play a variety of challenging games, while expanding their critical thinking skills along the way. Horizons programmed and produced this entire project, which included music and video from the original TV series.
